Creating quantum dots by charge density fluctuations.
We study electrostatic potential fluctuations induced by randomly distributed electric charge near quantum wells. We demonstrate that those fluctuations can eventually lead to the formation of quantum-dot like confining potential in the quantum well. The experimental results on GaMnAs p-i-n resonant tunnellig diodes are in a good agreement with our theoretical modelling. Our findings can be used for creating well separated quantum dots with rich energy spectra.
